Sri Lanka's Apex Organisation for Export Promotion
In a strategic move to bolster Sri Lanka’s exports and enhance the international competitiveness of SMEs in Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) signed a cooperation agreement with International Finance Corporation (IFC) launching the Sri Lanka Export Excellence Initiative (SLEEI).
European Union (EU) Ambassador to Sri Lanka Her Excellency Carmen Moreno reiterated their unwavering commitment to uplift the island’s economic conditions by engaging in fruitful collaborations. The Ambassador made these remarks when she made a courtesy call on the newly appointed EDB Chairman Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe on the 7th November, 2024, together with the Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Lars Bredal.
As a strategic move to develop a mechanism for addressing challenges in the export value chain, the Export Development Board (EDB) has established a Trade Facilitation Task Force. The first meeting was held on October 29 at the Export Development Board.
As per the provisional data released by the Sri Lanka Customs, the merchandise export performance in September 2024 amounted to US$ 937.95 million, recorded a decline of 3.49 % compared to the month of September 2023. This was mainly due to the decrease in earnings from export of Tea, Rubber based products, Electrical & Electronics and Seafood.

This was mainly due to the increase in earnings from export of Apparel & Textiles, Tea, Rubber based products, Coconut based products and Spices & Concentrates.
A delegation from the Canton Fair Operations Department of China visited Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) on 30th August 2024 to scale up trade relationship between the two countries through participating at trade promotional events such as Canton Fair 2024.
A high-level delegation from Mirai Consulting Group, Japan, recently visited Sri Lanka to explore potential investment opportunities in various sectors. The delegation, led by Okada Atsushi, COO of Mirai Consulting Group, met with the EDB Chairman at the EDB headquarters.
Export Development Board (EDB) and KPMG Sri Lanka jointly organized a knowledge-sharing session on the new European Union (EU) regulations concerning Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors on 11th September 2024.
A training session addressing the critical issue of post-harvest losses through innovative packaging techniques was recently held at the Export Development Board (EDB). Organized in collaboration with the National Packaging Center (NPC) and the National Institute of Post-Harvest Management (NIPHM), the event attracted around 50 entrepreneurs with export potential.

The EDB was established in 1979 with the objective of establishing a strong government-level institutional framework to develop and promote Sri Lanka’s exports in order to integrate with the global economy consequent to the adoption of liberal economic policies in 1977, and it has been at the vanguard in terms of promoting and developing exports in Sri Lanka for over four decades.

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) recently hosted a workshop on the Fair Trade Certification Process in Sri Lanka bringing 02 prominent certification entities to a one platform. The workshop aimed to educate Sri Lankan producers and exporters about Fair Trade certification processes and the importance of acquiring such certification.
