The Export Development Board (EDB), in collaboration with the German Import Promotion Desk (IPD), successfully completed the SME sourcing mission for 2025, aimed at boosting Sri Lankan exports to the European market.
As part of the sourcing mission, IPD experts together with EDB officers visited 14 companies across nine districts in Sri Lanka, including Kurunegala, Kandy, Nuware Eliya, Monaragala, Hambantota, Matara, Galle, Gampaha and Kaluthara. This mission focused on identifying high-potential businesses in key sectors, such as spices, coconut-based products, nuts, sweeteners, processed food and organic or fair-trade certified artisanal tea and coffee and cosmetic ingredients that are primed to establish a stronger presence in international markets.
The program underscores the mission of the German Import Promotion Desk, an initiative of the Federation of German Wholesale, Foreign Trade and Services (BGA) and sequagGmbH. On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, IPD currently works with 21 partner countries fostering sustainable trade relationships.

With the steadfast support of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), the program continues to position Sri Lankan SMEs on the global stage, driving innovation, enhancing competitiveness, and adding value to exports.
This sourcing mission marks another milestone in the ongoing partnership between the EDB and IPD, ensuring Sri Lankan SMEs have the support they need to reach new heights in global trade and contribute to the country's sustainable economic growth.
