The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Belgium, together with the Export Development Board of Sri Lanka (EDB) promoted Ceylon tea, Sri Lanka spices and coconut-based products at the 8th edition of the INTRAFOOD trade fair in Kotrijk, Belgium on 27 to 28 October 2021.
The two-day biannual trade event was a professional trade fair for the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) and Northern France region which connected food industry managers from the research & development, product development, production, purchasing and quality departments with suppliers and manufactures of raw materials, ingredients, additives, consumables and semi-processed products to find all the ingredients and state-of-the-art information to help them develop new or improved products. The INTRAFOOD has established itself as the number one meeting place for the food ingredient industry in the Benelux and Northern France region.
A Sri Lankan exporter namely Wichy Coconut Company participated in the Fair exhibiting a variety of processed and semi-processed organic coconut products including vegan and dairy alternatives such as coconut milk, coconut syrup, creamed coconut, and a range of Ceylon teas and spices which attracted many inquiries from the visitors. The Embassy also facilitated virtual interaction between the industry managers and representatives of Wichy Company for establishing business contacts.
The Fair organizers hosted seminars during the two-day event that covered a broad spectrum of current topics including information on the purchase of sustainable agricultural raw materials and certification, current trends in the food industry as well as new products and projects from food industry leaders.
The INTRAFOOD trade fair was held exclusively for industry professionals which had 120 exhibitors and attracted around 1500 food industry professionals. This is the second time Sri Lanka has participated in the INTRAFOOD since 2018. The next edition of the Fair will be held in 2023.
