The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) recently hosted a productive meeting with Mr. Toyokazu Nagamune, South Asia Regional Representative of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), to explore the potential for establishing a regional economic cluster aimed at facilitating the export of manufactured goods to Japan and other regions. This initiative seeks to enhance economic cooperation between Sri Lanka, India, and Japan.
During the discussions, Mr. Nagamune highlighted opportunities for strengthened collaboration in trade and investment, emphasizing Sri Lanka’s strategic position and industrial capabilities. The meeting focused on identifying key sectors for export promotion and exploring strategies to enhance regional supply chains, thereby improving market access for Sri Lankan products.
Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the EDB, underscored Sri Lanka's potential as a strategic hub for trade and investment. He outlined the country's capabilities, investment opportunities, and its advantageous geographical location as a key player in the global market.
The discussions reinforced the importance of fostering stronger trade partnerships and advancing export-oriented industrial growth through regional cooperation. Both parties expressed their commitment to further engagement in developing trade and investment opportunities between Sri Lanka and Japan.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Hiroki Oi, Resident Representative of JETRO Colombo, and Ms. Lakna Wasalage, Senior Research Executive at JETRO Colombo. Representing the EDB were Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Anoma Premathilake, Additional Director General - Development, along with other EDB officials.
