In a strategic move to bolster Sri Lanka’s exports and enhance the international competitiveness of SMEs in Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) works with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the Sri Lanka Export Excellence Initiative (SLEEI). This technical assistance is under EU's regional initiative 'Accelerating Climate Smart and Inclusive Infrastructure in South Asia (ACSIIS)’.
During a recent meeting between the EDB Chairman, Mr Mangala WIjesinghe and the IFC representatives in Sri Lanka, both parties discussed the way forward on the implementation of Sri Lanka Export Excellence Initiative.
Sri Lanka Export Excellence Initiative (SLEEI) is designed to elevate Sri Lanka’s SMEs by providing comprehensive support, training, and market access through a targeted systematic development programme. SLEEI aims to empower local businesses with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of international trade, helping them achieve sustainable and impactful growth in export markets.
Through the Sri Lanka Export Excellence Initiative, the EDB and IFC continue to support a new wave of Sri Lankan SMEs to thrive in the international marketplace, helping them contribute significantly to the nation’s economy. This partnership is aimed at incorporating sustainability concepts into export-focused awareness programs, ensuring that participating SMEs are not only export-ready but also align with global sustainability standards.
Chairman, EDB expressed his strong support for the initiative and reiterated the EDB's commitment to fostering a favourable environment for export growth. He assured the attendees, including the IFC team members, that the EDB would continue to support the program’s implementation and work towards maintaining an SME supportive policy environment.
