The EU Commission by the implementing regulation - (EU) 2022/144, has entered the name ‘Ceylon Cinnamon’ to the register of Protected Designations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications (Ceylon Cinnamon PGI) with effect from 2nd February, 2022.
The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) conducted a commemorative ceremony on 2nd August at its head office premises in Colombo to mark its 44th anniversary under the patronage of EDB Chairman Dr. Kingsley Bernard.
The 1st of August, 2023, marks the 44th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB). The EDB was established in 1979 with the objective of establishing a strong government-level institutional framework to develop and promote Sri Lanka’s exports in order to integrate with the global economy consequent to the adoption of liberal economic policies in 1977, and it has been at the vanguard in terms of promoting and developing exports in Sri Lanka for over four decades.
The latest edition provides statistical information related to Sri Lanka’s external trade and its contribution to major economic indicators such as trade balance, GDP, individual sectoral involvement, export regions per each product, their market growth and projected export forecast for the year 2022 and minimum five preceding years.

Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports increased by 16.6 % to US$ 989.7 Million in May 2023 compared to April 2023. However, it is a 5.59 % decrease when compared to May 2022.

Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports decreased by 16.15 % to US$ 814.1 Million in April 2023 compared to April 2022. Moreover, it is a 0.5 % decrease when compared to April 2021.

In an event held in Colombo on the 28th of April 2023, the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) made public the National Organic Certification Mark (NOCM) to increase consumers’ awareness on organic food production. United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce (AHK Sri Lanka) together with the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) organized an awareness program for Sri Lankan exporters in preparation for the forthcoming German Act on Corporate Due Diligence in Supply Chains that came into force in Germany from 1st January 2023. The initiative aimed to increase awareness regarding the new law in Germany, and outline the challenges and opportunities for Sri Lankan Export Industries.
