The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), the host institution of SheTrades Sri Lanka Hub, in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC), recently facilitated the participation of Selyn Exporters (Pvt) Limited and Candle House Ceylon, two Sri Lankan women-led businesses, at Ambiente 2025, one of the world’s premier trade fairs for consumer goods held in Frankfurt, Germany. This initiative was part of the SheTrades Commonwealth+ Programme, funded by the United Kingdom's (UK) International Development.
As part of its commitment to empowering women entrepreneurs, ITC supported eight women-led businesses from Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh at Ambiente 2025, providing them with the platform to showcase their sustainable and innovative products in the highly competitive global market.
At Ambiente 2025, Sri Lankan Women Led Businesses gained exposure to a highly competitive market and had the chance to explore new business opportunities and establish global partnerships. Their presence at the fair allowed them to showcase their eco-friendly and handcrafted products, which resonate with the growing global demand for sustainability.
The exhibition opened new doors for market access, with international buyers expressing interest in their products. The event also provided the businesses with significant brand exposure, positioning them as leaders in sustainable and ethically sourced goods. Networking with potential partners, investors, and buyers further strengthened their prospects for future collaborations and growth. Additionally, constructive feedback from the international market allowed them to refine their product offerings and align with global trends.
This successful participation highlights the critical role women entrepreneurs play in driving Sri Lanka’s export sector. With continued support from the EDB and ITC, initiatives like SheTrades enable women entrepreneurs to expand their businesses globally, contribute to economic growth, and promote gender equality in international trade.
