Sri Lanka's Apex Organisation for Export Promotion
The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Melbourne (SLCG) and the Sri Lanka-Australia Chamber of Commerce (SLACC), successfully organized a trade delegation to Melbourne, Australia, from 2nd to 6th September, 2024.
As per the provisional data released by the Sri Lanka Customs, the merchandise export performance in August 2024 amounted to US$ 1,165.4 million, recorded an increase of 4.18 % compared to the month of August 2023. This was mainly due to the increase in earnings from export of Apparel & Textiles, Tea, Rubber based products, Coconut based products and Spices & Concentrates.
A delegation from the Canton Fair Operations Department of China visited Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) on 30th August 2024 to scale up trade relationship between the two countries through participating at trade promotional events such as Canton Fair 2024.
A high-level delegation from Mirai Consulting Group, Japan, recently visited Sri Lanka to explore potential investment opportunities in various sectors. The delegation, led by Okada Atsushi, COO of Mirai Consulting Group, met with the EDB Chairman at the EDB headquarters.
Export Development Board (EDB) and KPMG Sri Lanka jointly organized a knowledge-sharing session on the new European Union (EU) regulations concerning Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors on 11th September 2024.
A training session addressing the critical issue of post-harvest losses through innovative packaging techniques was recently held at the Export Development Board (EDB). As per the provisional data released by the Sri Lanka Customs, the merchandise export performance in May 2024 amounted to US$ 960.2 million, recorded an increase of 9.4 % compared to the preceding month, April 2024. Furthermore, export performance in May 2024 decreased by 5.81 % compared to May 2023. Figure 1 shows Monthly Merchandise export performance from the year 2021 to May 2024.
Sri Lanka Export Development Board organised Sri Lanka participation’s for the 2nd time at the “THAIFEX – Anuga Asia -2024”, an international food fair held in Bangkok, Thailand from 28th May to 01st June 2024 with Six Sri Lankan food processing companies and one startup company to promote agriculture products such as food & beverages, tea, coconut kernel products, fruits, and spices.
The total exports (Merchandise & Service) for the month of April 2024 was recorded as US$ 1,114.22 Million increasing 1.25 % over the corresponding period of 2023.
China Market for Fresh Pineapple has been facilitated for the fresh pineapple exporters by the Sri Lanka Embassy in China, NPQS (National Plant Quarantine Service), Ministry of Plantation Industries, Department of Agriculture, GACC (General Administration of Customs of China), EDB (Sri Lanka Export Development Board).
