Chairman of FACETS Sri Lanka Juzar Adamaly said that the next goal of FACETS Sri Lanka is to establish Colombo as the Gem and Jewellery Hub of Asia. He made this remark while officially declaring the opening of 25th ‘FACETS Sri Lanka’ International Gem and Jewellery Exhibition in BMICH.
FACETS Sri Lanka 2015, the annual international gem and jewellery show, will be the flagship event of the sector.
More than 150 exhibitors will showcase their products from today till Sunday at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre. . “It is over a 10,000 foot fall this year throughout the four days of the exhibition. A large number of buyers from China have confirmed while over 100 international buyer delegation are expected to attend the show from China, India, Dubai, Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, USA, Russia, Norway and Germany,” one of the top gem and jewellery exhibitors Zam Gems Managing Director Ahsan Refai told the Daily News business.
Sri Lanka will seriously consider economic reforms during next five years to make its production of goods and services “the most efficient and competitive” in this part of the world, MP Dr. Harsha de Silva said.

Private sector firms participating in the Sri Lanka Pavilion at the five-day China South Asia Expo in Kunming are upbeat of prospects. This year the Sri Lanka Pavilion has over 120 companies as well as five Government institutions and the participation is facilitated by the Sri Lanka Export Development Board.
Sri Lanka investing just 0.5 million dollars on the stall that was given at gratis by the Italian Government on the request of Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The Jaffna International Trade Fair (JITF), the most comprehensive and ‘looked forward to’ exhibition in the North will be held for the sixth consecutive year in the heart of Jaffna from the January 23-25, 2015.
The exhibition which was the first of its kind to be held in the Northern region of the country has throughout the years been renowned as the best and most potent platform for the meeting of investors, businesses and the masses in the region.
Kenya, the newest entrant to Africa’s top 10 list, called for renewed trade with Sri Lanka and in a display of its commitment towards this end requested three trade pacts with Sri Lanka in one go by 2015.

Colombo’s latest international boat show, which featured an on-water boat display for the first time, concluded successfully after a three-day run on 12 October.
“We have been talking about five hubs. Today there are two major milestones taking place at this event – the promotion of the maritime hub as well as our tourism,” said EDB Chairman and CEO Bandula Egodage, addressing the inauguration event of Boatshow 2014 on 10 October at Dickowita Harbour, Wattala.

South Asia’s premier boat show and fisheries exhibition, ‘Boat Show 2014’ organized by Boat Building Technology Improvement Institute (BTI), Sri Lanka Export Development Board and Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services will take centre stage from October 10-12, 2014 at the Dickowita Fisheries Harbour under the theme ‘Promotion of Leisure Boating in Sri Lanka’.
The main objective of the event is to attract buyers from all corners of the globe, while positioning Sri Lanka as the hub for the industry in South Asia and to develop a forum between buyers and sellers to facilitate industry growth.
Over 50 small and medium enterprises will take part in FACETS Sri Lanka 2014, the international gem and jewellery exhibition, according to the organising committee. Organised by the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association (SLGJA), this year’s event held for its 24th year, will be held from 4-7 September at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Exhibition Centre.
Sri Lanka has garnered more than $4.6 Mn orders at the recently concluded Kunming Int’l Fair in China-and this too is only from the initial overview of Kunming outcomes rather than any in-depth totals. “I am pleased of the performance of the delegation of 119 companies and businesses that I led to Kunming. I commend EDB for this successful facilitation effort” said a satisfied Rishad Bathiudeen (Minister of Industry and Commerce of Sri Lanka) on 31 July in Colombo.
