Sri Lanka’s merchandise and service exports in 2018 are estimated to have hit an all-time high of $ 17 billion, up 15% from a year earlier prompting the Government to be confident of achieving the $20 billion milestone this year.
The 22nd Presidential Export Awards Ceremony was held to celebrate the outstanding achievements of the Exporters at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo, on September 18, 2018, under the patronage of His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena the President of Sri Lanka.

The National Export Strategy (NES) has started sailing in the high waves after obtaining the Cabinet approval and the launch with all the stakeholders of the NES. The NES, a flagship development project spearheaded by the Development Strategies and International Trade Ministry and Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB), together with the public-private partnership, commenced its implementation.

Sri Lankan companies have gained more than 28 business leads, about 15 business alliances, joint venture opportunities coupled with market exposure, and studying new trends in technology and innovation by participating in the exposure visit cum business matchmaking programs to Malaysia and Singapore for the electronics and electrical sector organised by Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) in collaboration with High Commissions of Sri Lanka in Malaysia and Singapore from 16-21 July.
Being the Strategic Partner of the Sri Lanka Investment and Business Conclave 2018 organized by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) 2018 from 19th to 21st June 2018, the EDB collaborated with CCC in organizing foreign buyers delegation for the event considering the benefits that will accrue to the development of exports through establishment of trade links, creating investment opportunities into the export sectors and image building efforts of the country.

The Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB) yesterday said the National Export Strategy (NES) it has designed in collaboration with the export sector stakeholders is ready to be presented to the Cabinet of Ministers for approval.
The Sri Lanka Export Development Board under the directive of the Hon. Malik Samarawickrama, Minister of Development Strategies & International Trade arranged a successful inward delegation from Pakistan following the research done by EDB in 2017 on new opportunities in Pakistan, the 2nd largest economy in South Asia. This mission also focused on maximizing trade under the Pakistan Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement (PSFTA) to achieve the export earnings of US$ 20 million in 2020.

The Export Development Board (EDB) organised a seminar for the electronics and electrical sector exporters and potential exporters in Sri Lanka to make them aware on the recent developments of the industry and the market linkages and trade and tariff concessions in identified regional markets. About 35 participants from the electronics and electrical sector attended this seminar held at the EDB.
Sri Lanka Electronics Manufacturers and Exporters Association (SLEMEA), in collaboration with Sri Lanka Export Development Board (SLEDB) recently organised a business conference for the Sri Lankan electronics and electrical industry to highlight the importance of the sector in the export market. As Sri Lanka’s pro-growth reforms gather pace, amidst an improving external economic environment, exports and Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) have shown substantial increases this year compared to last year, the Development Strategy and International Trade Ministry said.
On a promotional visit to enhance Sri Lanka’s exports to Italian market under EU-GSP+ concessions and the investment potentials, Minister Sujeewa Senasinghe addressed Sri Lanka Business Forum organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Italy, Sri Lanka Consulate in Milan and the EDB, in association with Associazione Italiana Commercio Esterocalled AICE in Milan. This forum was held at the auditorium of AICE on 17th of October where it was attended over 70 potential buyers, importers, investors and the chamber representatives in Milan. AICE in Milan, having more than 70 years of history, has been helping Italian and foreign companies to do mutual business in Italy.
