How to Earn the Fairtrade Tea Certification for Tea?

Fairtrade is a charity based in the United Kingdom. It runs an arrangement designed to help producers to achieve sustainable and equitable trade relationships. This approach enables farmers and workers to have more control over their investments. Owning a Fairtrade Tea Certification means that producers and businesses have met internationally agreed standards that have been independently certified.

To earn Fairtrade certification, all the business activities have to comply with the requirements of FLOCERT, the biggest certifier for Fairtrade. It complies with Fairtrade International’s Requirements for Assurance Providers and they are monitored by an oversight committee that reports to the Fairtrade board. All the producer organizations have to go through an initial on-site audit before they get certified. These auditors are highly qualified and they are usually based in the same countries and regions where they work. Once the auditor is done with the report, it is sent to FLOCERT for evaluation.

Once certified, the producer organization is subjected to a three-year certification cycle. Up to two confirmation audits take place during this time. In addition to regular audits, FLOCERT will also conduct unannounced audits if there are indications of any risks. A renewal audit is conducted at the end of the third year. Once it is conducted successfully, a new certificate will be issued for the same cycle which will be continued for the next three years
