The company was originally incorporated under the Companies Act No.17 of 1982 as a private limited liability company on 4th June 1979 at the registered office located at No. 40-3/1 Church Street, Colombo -1. Sun Match Company founded by Founder Chairman / Managing Director T.R.R. Rajan commenced its operations on the 12th February, 1984 manufacturing “SOORYA” brand wax coated safety matches. This was the first wax coated match manufactured in Sri Lanka and it was in collaboration with the M/s. Asia Match Co. (Pvt) Ltd., Sivakasi, India
