CEAT KELANI INTERNATIONAL TYRES PVT LTD
CEAT International which stands for Cavi Electrici Affini Torino (Electrical Cables and Allied Products of Turin) was first established in 1924 in Turin, Italy as a manufacturer of cables for telephones and railways. In 1958, CEAT entered India, and CEAT Tyres of India Ltd was established in collaboration with the TATA Group. In 1982, the RPG Group, one of India’s fastest growing business groups consisting of over 15 companies took over CEAT Tyres of India, and in 1990, renamed the company CEAT Ltd. CEAT India entered Sri Lanka in 1992 forming a joint venture with AMW to manufacture and market CEAT tyres in the domestic market. Subsequently, a three way venture was formed with Kelani Tyres and thus, CEAT Kelani became the largest domestic tyre manufacturer. With the exit of AMW in 2009, CEAT Kelani Holdings remained a joint venture with CEAT India and Kelani Tyres Sri Lanka and to date, this Indo Sri Lanka joint venture company caters to the needs of the domestic and international markets from three technologically advanced tyre manufacturing facilities in Kelaniya and Kalutara.
