3S Fabrications (Pvt) Ltd, is a world leading load cell and weighing systems manufacturer providing a wide range of load cells, weighing systems, force and pressure sensors, digital instrumentation, and custom test stands. With the main office based in the US and design and manufacturing facility based in Sri Lanka, the company is pursuing a strategy of international expansion across all continents. 3S Fabrications (Pvt) Ltd was started as a Sri Lankan manufacturing facility for load cells in 2009 with 10 employees. Load Cell manufacturing is a niche segment of engineering that requires specialized technical knowledge, which at the time of the company’s inception was with only a few individuals in the country, Mr. Gamini Bandara, the current Managing Director of the company among them. Having recognized Mr. Bandara’s experience and specialized technical knowledge, the investors were assured of their decision to establish a Load Cell company in Sri Lanka. Since then, the company has taken up many significant projects and has become a leading international manufacturer in the field of weighing and measurement, currently employing over 400 employees in 2 manufacturing facilities. The second facility which was established in 2017 in Madiliya, Hemmathagama, a traditionally non-industrial area, created many career opportunities for the community.
The synergy of a staff that carries more than 100 years of collective experience in the measurements industry, helps ensure continuous improvement of processes and products. The use of latest manufacturing technologies, engineering tools and automation enables 3S Fabrications to achieve the competitive advantage in the weighing and force industry. Currently the company produces load cells for an extremely diverse range of industries internationally that includes aerospace, agriculture, industrial automation, packaging, segregating, oil drilling, medical and pharmaceutical applications, food processing and biotechnology. 3S Fabrications test stands are used for weigh verification in the production of the Covid vaccine.
The company expects to double its sales volumes by the end of 2022. 3S Fabrications (Pvt)Ltd encourages a proactive culture and works to establish effective processes to continually improve QMS in order to achieve best and consistent product quality. Its workforce is extensively trained to be able to carry out highly technical precision work. The company takes many steps to ensure that the quality of products and processes complies with various international standards such as ISO9001.2015 and ISO-IEC80079-34 Quality management systems and Verified Conformity Assessment Program (VCAP) which has been implemented by the National Conference on Weights and Measures to ensure continued compliance of certain device types with environmental requirements.
The manufacturing process of 3S Fabrications are also compliant with the National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) and the International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML) under which load cells are tested and evaluated to ensure that they meet global load cell standards and requirements. In addition to these, 3S Fabrications produces the load cells in compliance with ATEX and CSA certification that is given to equipment that has gone through rigorous testing outlined by European and North American standards/directives which certifies that the products are safe to use in specific environments with explosive atmospheres.
3S Fabrications works closely with state agencies such as the Export Development Board (EDB) and the Board of Investments (BOI) and commends the support the agencies lend towards the progress of the Sri Lankan EE industry and the export sector. Special mention was given to the support extended during the unprecedented challenges the industry faced during the Covid-19 pandemic.
