Ceylon Tea tops the list of the world’s finest teas. A staple for many tea enthusiasts with a discerning taste, our tea is trusted by consumers across the globe. And we make sure that we serve them with nothing but the best.
To ensure that the Sri Lankan tea products reaching global markets are of the highest quality, we have taken many steps, both at the national and the grass-root level; the Ceylon Tea validation is one of them. If you are an exporter thinking of linking your brand with the widely sought-after Lion Logo, here are some of the most frequently asked questions about the Ceylon Tea validation process.
The Lion Logo is a symbol of quality. It distinguishes Ceylon Tea from other varieties and brands of tea available globally under many names and serves as a testament, assuring our loyal customers that the tea inside the package is pure Ceylon tea and nothing else. Simply put, the Lion Logo serves to distinguish Sri Lankan tea from other teas of mixed origins. If you want to make sure that you are buying the famous Ceylon Tea, look for the Lion Logo.
The lion logo is owned by the Sri Lankan Tea Board (SLTB,) the Sri Lankan tea industry's main regulatory and administrative body.
To be eligible to apply for the use of the lion logo, you have to be a “person or a body of persons who possess a valid license for engaging in any packaging of tea in terms of The Sri Lanka Tea Board (Registration of Tea Packers) Regulation of 1986,” as stated by the guidelines for the use of Lion Logo.
To be granted the prestige of using the lion logo, you have to comply with four conditions:
The first step is to collect the application for the use of Lion Logo and the guidelines from the Tea Tasting Unit of the Sri Lanka Tea Board.
Next, as per the guidelines, duly completed applications should be forwarded with the tea packs awaiting approval to the Tea Tasting Unit.
The status of your application will be conveyed to you within 3 working days after evaluating the packs. If your packs are approved, you can collect the certification which is valid for three (3) years & the processing fee is now free of charge. Afterwards, packs and applications should be submitted accordingly before the shipment. No charges will be levied for additional packs or destinations under the same brand.

No, overseas importers, manufacturers, and distributors cannot use the lion logo on their packs even if the contents are 100% Ceylon Tea. Only the Sri Lankan tea sellers growing and manufacturing tea in Sri Lanka can use the lion logo.
No, it cannot be mixed with tea from any other part of the world. If blended, it doesn’t get the prestigious lion logo even if it contains 95% Ceylon Tea.
