The Kothalawala family was running a small paddy and chili processing unit at Thudugala Junction, Dodangoda, mainly as a social service. Two brothers, Aruna Kothalawala and Nirmala Kotalawala, undergraduates of the University of Colombo and the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, respectively, initiated the need for growth. The two brothers developed the unit into a commercially viable venture in a phased manner, expanding its product range and infusing new technology. It involved the introduction of new ground spice formulations and an extended distribution network. As a result, Wijaya Products became in demand. In preparation for the future market trends, they constructed a complex of factories with state-of-the-art modern technologies that mass-produced spices, pasta, and more. Currently, over 850 employees work to achieve success for the organization with the belief in its management and team for quality products but at reasonable prices.
